Moon and Mary

Where convict history meets cocktails and modern Asian flair in the heart of Freo.

Housed in Fremantle’s 1894 police lock-up, Moon & Mary is a bold three-part venue bringing history to life through flavour, fire, and fun. Step inside these convict-carved walls and you’ll find Best Behaviour – bar and working distillery – keeping alive the rebellious legacy of prison-house moonshine with small-batch spirits.

The Dining Room offers a menu of bold, modern Asian-fusion dishes designed to share, crafted by a passionate kitchen team who don’t shy away from flavour. From rotating daily specials to signature favourites, every plate is punchy, polished, and proudly 100% nut-free with no MSG or artificial additives. Most of the menu is gluten free too, and the kitchen coeliac-friendly.

Down the corridor, the Rec Yard is a sunny, beer garden perfect for afternoon drinks and casual catch-ups – while tucked behind the barred doors of the original cells lies something unexpected: intimate private dining spaces that transform this historic setting into one of the most unique dining and event destinations in WA.

Whether you’re serving time for dumplings and house-made gin, planning a private function in a former cell block, or booking out Fremantle’s premier events space in the Dining Room, Moon & Mary delivers atmosphere, attitude, and a whole lot of fun.
