A rock star’s guide to Fremantle

29 May 2024

Local legend Abbe May knows a thing or two about Freo. So, when you're ready to do Fremantle like a rock star, what does she recommend?

Coffee

Otis Espresso, which is in the entrance to Fremantle Markets, is an amazing place to caffeinate when in Fremantle. It’s really delicious coffee, the Barista is always lovely and it is a great way to start a visit to the iconic markets.

A drink

Ode To Sirens is my favourite. The walls are adorned with amazing art, there’s always cool records being spun and the Greek-centric food is perfectly paired with the tap beer and fine wines on offer.

A gig

Mojos is where you go if you wanna see the best of local, national and international artists in a very cool, very Freo, very intimate setting. Be warned: these nights are very rock and roll. You may wake up on Port Beach seeing tie-dye dolphins and surrounded by bush chooks.

"You can't visit Freo without seeing live music at Mojos bar in North Freo. It's an institution." The Guardian

A meal

Young George is really stellar. The chef, Melissa Palinkas is world class. YG is superbly run, always friendly. Always YUM!

More

"We have fantastic access to fresh seafood in Freo and it’s served up in places that aren’t over-the-top swanky. High-end food and drink with a relaxed and welcoming vibe is a huge part of the culture here."
