Give the Kids a Very Freo Christmas
Fremantle is turning it on this festive season, and the fun has only just begun. Follow the lead of Kids in Freo, and give the kids a very Freo Christmas. Check out their tips on how to get amongst the magic.
1. Hunt down the elves
Follow the Elf on the Shelf Christmas Trail and spot elves hiding above fireplaces, hanging off a crocodile, up trees and on top of arcade games – the kids are sure to love it. You’ll be glad to hear the elves are hiding around some of the best spots to grab a bite and a refreshment or two. If it’s all a bit too much for little legs, pick up the map and have fun finding them each time you pop into town – it’s running until 21 December.

2. Get into Walyalup Koort – the heart of Christmas in Freo
Bring the kids into Walyalup Koort between 12 to 16 December to look for Santa’s reindeers in the Christmas Maze (12pm – 7pm), and stay on to watch our beautiful heritage buildings shine in the Christmas Light Show (from 8pm). This show was a hit with the kids last year, be sure to keep them up past their bedtime for one of these spectacular evenings by local artist, Tim Green.
If you can’t wait until next week’s festivities, there is no better way to get into the festive spirit than the much-loved Community Christmas Carols. Come along and sing with local performers this Friday (9 December) between 4pm and 6pm.
3. Make a meal of it
While you’re getting amongst the magic of the Fremantle Christmas Festival, grab a meal at one of the kid-friendly cafes or restaurants near Walyalup Koort, like Old Courthouse, Varsity or Fomoto Sushi Train*. Or let the kids play on the grass or at the playground and enjoy takeaway from FOMO.

4. Wander the streets as the lights shine bright
Market St is looking pretty spectacular at the moment, wander the streets at twilight and take it all in. Be sure to submit your vote for the Shine a Light Christmas Trail before 15 December, let the kids pick their favourite decorated shopfront.
5. Pick up those last minute stocking fillers
While you’re in town, pop by some of Freo’s amazing boutiques for those last minute gifts for the kids. Some of our favourites are: Paper Bird Books, The Pickled Fairy, Sunny and Beau, South Beach Boardies, Toyworld, Corner Store, Hey Little Store and Hubble and Duke.
