Sunday Music: People Taking Pictures & MALI JO$E

13 December 2024
People Taking Pictures & MALI JO$E take the stage for Fremantle Art Centre's free live music event, Sunday Music.

People Taking Pictures (PTP) is a genre-blending musical project rooted in psychedelic sounds and infused with elements of alternative rock, indie, hip-hop, sampling, jazz, and electronic music. Initially formed in 2019 as a solo endeavor by Luke Parish—renowned for his work with Perth-based alt-rock band Psychedelic Porn Crumpets—PTP has grown into a collaborative force. Over three full-length albums, the project has featured contributions from Perth MCs Mali Jose, POW! Negro (Superego, Myriad Sun), and Cruz Patterson (Koi Child). With a newly formed six-piece live band and a fourth album on the horizon, 2025 promises to be another landmark year for PTP.

Fremantle's own Mali Jo$e is making waves in 2024 with his celebrated mixtape El Niño, collaborations with New Jersey rapper Sol ChYld and producer Dugong Jr (via Majestic Casual), and a national campaign for Adidas’ SPEZIAL sneaker line. His EP BREEZECATCHER recently debuted on vinyl, and his achievements include a WAM Award for Best Hip Hop Act, a debut national tour, and performances at SXSW Sydney. With cosigns from US critics like Anthony Fantano and Ebro, and collaborations with Mick Jenkins, Sol ChYld, Kobie Dee, and Tasman Keith, Mali Jo$e is cementing his place as a rising star in the Australian music scene.
