Celebrated for his genre-defying sound, Shabaka returns to Australia in March 2025. Known for pioneering the resurgence of British jazz, his upcoming tour will bring a broader musical scope that Australian audiences haven’t previously experienced. His new album, Perceive Its Beauty, Acknowledge Its Grace, is set to showcase this evolution.
The tour will highlight Perceive Its Beauty, Acknowledge Its Grace, a captivating body of work that places Shabaka’s mastery of global flutes at the forefront. Combining his flute work with the talents of creative improvisers, he weaves together a rich, textural world that is both beautiful and serene.
Shabaka’s live performances promise an immersive musical journey, blending meditative compositions with the dynamic energy of improvisation. Audiences can expect to experience both solo moments and collaborative performances with guest musicians for an evocative and poetic soundscape.
Renowned for his work with bands like Sons of Kemet and The Comet is Coming, Shabaka’s transition from saxophone to flute-based compositions marks a new chapter in his career. Perceive Its Beauty, Acknowledge Its Grace reflects his desire to create music that generates “energy without tension,” offering a contemplative exploration of tranquility and spiritual depth.
One of the most-esteemed artists of our time – Shabaka has been called upon to work with the likes of Andre 3000, Floating Points, Sun Ra Arkestra, Mulatu Astatke, Esperanza Spalding & Milton Nascimento. He also acted as musical director for Gilles Peterson’s We Out Here compilation – a key pillar in the revival of the UK Jazz wave.
Don’t miss the chance to witness one of contemporary music’s most visionary artists as he redefines the boundaries of jazz and beyond on this Australian tour. This could be the first and only time Shabaka brings this concept to life on our shores.
