What is the Totally Lit Trail?
The Totally Lit Trail is a free school holiday activity presented by the City of Fremantle in partnership with Totally Lit Festival and participating trail partners.
Children can explore Fremantle while collecting the six pieces of a limited-edition magnetic illustration created by local author and illustrator James Foley. Along the way, families can enjoy a range of activities and experiences across participating venues.

🏴☠️ Pirate attire is highly encouraged but not necessary. The more bootstraps, bandanas and eye patches, the better!
When is the trail running?
5-11 October 2026
The trail runs daily throughout the event period.
Map collection is available from 10am to 2pm daily at Fremantle Town Hall.
Most trail activities operate between 10am and 2pm, with a small number of participating venues offering activities beyond these hours.
How much does it cost?
The Totally Lit Trail is completely free.
Do I need to register?
Registration is encouraged and helps us manage attendance across the event.
However, we will never turn families away and can accommodate walk-ins on the day.
Only children participating in the trail need to be registered. Parents and carers do not require a ticket.
If you can't attend on your booked day, your ticket will still be valid on another day during the event period. There is no need to rebook.
If you're running late, that's okay. You can collect your map at any time between 10am and 2pm.
Where do I start?
All participants must begin at the Fremantle Town Hall, where you'll collect your trail map.
Fremantle Town Hall is the map collection point and is not one of the illustration collection locations.
Do I have to follow the route on the map?
No.
The map includes a suggested route, but families are welcome to visit locations in any order.
If a location is particularly busy, simply continue to another stop and return later.
Unlike the City of Fremantle LEGO Builds trail, there is no need to return to Town Hall after you've started. Once you've collected your map, you'll collect the six pieces of your magnetic illustration at participating venues throughout the city.
Where are the trail stops?
Collect a magnetic illustration piece at each of the following locations:
PIAZZA Fremantle
Maritime & Travel Bookshop
Blobfish Paper Co.
Paper Bird Children's Books & Arts
Esplanade Hotel Fremantle by Rydges
WA Shipwrecks Museum
How long does the trail take?
Most families will spend between one and three hours completing the trail, depending on how long they spend at each stop and activity.
The trail is self-paced, so you're welcome to take your time.
Who is the trail designed for?
The trail is designed primarily for children aged 2 to 11 years, although siblings and family members of all ages are welcome to join in.
Is the trail accessible?
Yes. All participating venues are wheelchair and pram friendly. Please note that the upper level of Paper Bird Children's Books & Arts is only accessible via stairs and is not wheelchair accessible. Due to the heritage nature of Fremantle's streets, some parts of the city can be more challenging to navigate.
A map of ACROD parking can be found here and general accessibility information can be found here.
What happens if I lose my map?
No worries.
Maps are helpful, but they aren't required to collect your magnetic illustration pieces. If you'd like a replacement, simply return to Fremantle Town Hall during collection hours and pick up another map.
Can we complete the trail over multiple days?
Yes.
Once you've collected your map, you can complete the trail at any pace during the event period. You do not need to finish it in a single day.
Are the magnetic illustration pieces limited?
Each participating child can collect one magnetic illustration piece at each stop, creating a complete six-piece magnetic illustration by James Foley.
Magnetic illustration pieces are available while supplies last.
Is there a prize for completing the trail?
Every participating child can collect and take home a complete six-piece magnetic illustration by James Foley.
Families who complete the post-event survey will also have the opportunity to enter a prize draw.
Terms and conditions apply.
Survey and prize information will be published closer to the event.
Are there activities along the trail?
Yes.
There are activities and experiences available at selected trail locations throughout the event.
Free children's activities will be happening at PIAZZA Fremantle, Esplanade Hotel and the WA Shipwreck Museum from 10am-2pm.
Are toilets available along the route?

Walyalup Civic Centre
Collie Street
Esplanade Reserve

Please note that dogs (not including service animals) are not permitted inside Fremantle Town Hall or WA Shipwrecks Museum. Individual trail venues may have their own policies regarding pets.
