Duke of George presents
Celebrate Mothers Day with Lazaro Numa
Born in Havana, Cuba, Lazaro Numa is an acclaimed trumpeter, composer and performer with over 15 years of international experience across Latin, jazz, pop and world music. He studied trumpet at the Amadeo Roldán Conservatory of Music in Havana before leaving Cuba in 2008 to pursue a global music career.
Lazaro has shared stages with some of the most respected names and ensembles in Cuban music — including Ibrahim Ferrer, Omara Portuondo, Juan de Marcos González, Barbarito Torres and Manuel “Guajiro” Mirabal — and has toured internationally with leading groups such as the Afro-Cuban All-Stars and The Bar at Buena Vista Show.
A standout year in his career was 2016, when he performed with Grammy-winning artist Diego El Cigala at WOMADelaide and toured packed stadiums across China with pop star David Tao. In the same year he composed and recorded his debut album, Mi Cuba, in Havana, featuring original compositions rooted in traditional Cuban rhythms and guest legend Manuel “Guajiro” Mirabal.
Lazaro has also been a part of exciting cross-cultural projects including Havana Meets Kingston and worked with several top Cuban ensembles. His playing is celebrated for its fiery energy, expressive tone and deep connection to Afro-Cuban musical heritage.
Now based in Adelaide, Australia, Lazaro tours regularly across Australia and Asia, performing his original music as well as supporting major international acts. In recent years he has joined the current lineup of The Cat Empire — contributing trumpet, vocals and percussion in one of the most dynamic eras of the band’s evolution. The group continues to release new music and tour globally, blending Latin, jazz, funk and world influences, including recent albums and international tours.
Whether leading his own project or lighting up stages with The Cat Empire, Lazaro brings a vibrant fusion of tradition and contemporary flair that moves audiences everywhere.
